Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Acting Governor of South Kalimantan Dr. Safrizal ZA said the construction of Sungai Salim Bridge in Mataraman, Banjar District, is now can be crossed by vehicles.
"Alhamdulillah, Sungai Salim Bridge in Mataraman can now be used and crossed by," said Safrizal in Banjarmasin, Thursday.
Although it cannot be fully used, Safrizal added, it has been able to streamline traffic till congestion no longer occurs.
The bridge is temporarily used for road users from the direction of Banjarmasin to Hulu Sungai (upstream area) --to then can continue to East or Central Kalimantan. Whereas drivers from Hulu Sungai to Banjarmasin are still using the emergency bridge.
"So, from Banjarmasin to Hulu Sungai you can use Salim Bridge, while from the opposite direction you still use the emergency bridge," he explained.
In addition, the tonnage of passing vehicles is limited, even though six-wheeled vehicles can pass them.
Safrizal believes that the full operation of Salim Bridge in Mataraman will be on target, namely the end of April 2021.
Head of the National Road Agency (BPJN) for South Kalimantan Syauqi Kamal said the bridge has been opened since Monday. It is now entering the oprit (approaching road embankments which connecting elements of road and bridge) working stage.
