Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Kelulut honey cultivation is one of the business developed by the Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Bangkiling Raya Village, Benua Lawas Sub-district, Tabalong Regency.
Miftahul Ulum, which is about 45 kilometers from the capital of Tabalong, is one of the pesantren or Islamic boarding school assisted by PT Adaro through Adaro's Prosperous Santri Program (PASS).
Since 2017, Adaro has assisted this pesantren beginning with an assessment to map the condition of Miftahul Ulum at that time. Then training were provided to strengthen human resources as the leading sector in business. In 2019 they worked on an area to be used as a place of business.
In early 2020 the business started, one of which was kelulut honey beehives as a potential business in Miftahul Ulum, besides fish and quail farming.
Kelulut (stingless bee) honey cultivation carried out by community service students (santri pengabdian) or alumni students. Currently, there are about 40 kelulut honey beehives and produce an average of one liter of honey per harvest.
“Alhamdulillah the kelulut cultivation has produced about one liter per harvest in the rainy season and can increase three times in the dry season," said Head of Miftahul Ulum Working Group Abdul Gafur.
He said that marketing currently has no problem, even though it was only marketed to the surrounding community and Majelis Ta’lim at a price of IDR250 thousand per liter.

In the midst of pandemic, the demand for honey tends to increase, because of its many benefits, especially for health, such as for cough, diabetes, appetite, and to restore body fitness, increase metabolism and immunity.
The location of cultivation is close to pesantren, so santri (students) who still studying can learn the process of cultivation.
This is in accordance with the main objective of PASS, which is to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in santri through pesantren-based entrepreneurship.
Santri as part of young generation will be able to become strategic agents of change in building the nation and Indonesia's economy in the future.
“Our hope is through this business students can learn entrepreneurship and the benefits obtained can support the operation of ponpes," said PIC PASS Miftahul Ulum, Citra.
