Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Two meters high floodwater has been inundated home of as many as 1,275 families in three villages in Satui Sub-district, Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, in the last two days.
The floods occurred after incessant heavy rain that led the Satui River overflowing its banks.
Head of the Tanah Bumbu Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Eriyanto Rais here on Thursday said the three affected villages were Sinar Bulan, Sungai Danau, and Sejahtera Mulia.
"As many as 1,275 families and 163 hectares of agricultural land in the three villages affected by the flood in the last two days," he said.
So far, the height of water continued to increase, reaching two to three meters. Seeing the incessant rain, it is predicted that the water discharge will continue to increase.
Eriyanto said that in Sejahtera Mulia Village the local consultative forum (Muspika) through the village government has set up public kitchens in two highland locations to accommodate food aid to affected residents.
However, it is different from the residents of Sungai Danau Village. They chose to stay in their respective homes while securing and looking after things in the house.
Meanwhile, Eriyanto said, BPBD provides temporary shelters for the victims located at Sinar Bulan Village, Satui Sub-district, precisely at the junior high school SMPN 4 Satui.
Currently police personnel and BPBD officers continue to patrol the field and reminding the people to remain vigilant if at any time the water rises again and to be cautious to protect their abandoned property.
"We ensure that all personnel on duty work optimally to evacuate the flood-affected residents. We also prepared basic food and medicines in the public kitchen for daily needs during the flood," he said.
