Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's government has prepared 10 stadia for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2021, the President Joko Widodo reaffirmed here, Friday, during a limited meeting at the Presidential Office.
"I order all stakeholders to check the stadia as they must meet all world-class standards. Please take a look at the venues, the fields, the seating benches, the changing rooms, toilets, and the press rooms," Joko Widodo (popular as Jokowi) remarked while stressing that the venues must be refurbished in accordance to international standards. Of 10 stadia prepared for the biennial men's youth football championship, only six of them serve as main venues, while the rest will function as back-up arenas. However, the President has yet to name which stadia will be used for the World Cup.
During the meeting, President Jokowi also prompted his ministers to ensure connectivity between the stadia and accommodations provided for participants. "Please make sure there will be no game delayed due to a connectivity issue. Therefore, we will only provide world-class facilities and accommodations," he added.
The tournament is scheduled from May 20 to June 11 next year and will be attended by 24 national teams from six confederations.
In October last year, Indonesia won the bid as a host of the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup, outbidding others, including Brazil and Peru.
