Paringin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A suspension bridge, which a connecting bridge for the Village of Babayau, Paringin Sub-district, Balangan, South Kalimantan, collapsed due to its 24 mm diameter armature steel as a retaining of the bridge iron rope broken.
As a result, residents who passed by motorbike and bridge workers fell into the river. So far no fatalities have been reported.
Chief of Babayau Village Doni said, last Saturday (Jan 11, 2020) at about 16.00, the suspension bridge was suddenly broke up while still in the process of finishing the construction of the side fence.
"Alhamdulillah (Thank God) there are no casualties, whereas the bridge was in finishing stage, and this week is planned to be completely finished," he revealed.

Noor Ifdali (38), a local resident, fell while riding a motorcycle across the bridge. At that time three workers were carrying out work.
At the same time, Hamdan (37) also fell with his two-wheel vehicle from the 75 meter long and 1,7 meter wide bridge.
Thus, five people who were on the birdge fell due to the armature iron anchoring the iron ropes of the bridge broken unable to resisted the load.

The birdge was built using the 2019 village budget worth Rp327.150.000, and was worked since October and was planned to finish this week in January 2020.
At time of the accident, the river water was deep and flowed swiftly due to rainy season.
Luckily the five victims were survived and only suffered minor injuries, but Noor Ifdali's motor bike, worker's generator and equipment were lost in the swift flow of the Batang River of Balangan. Meanwhile, Hamdani's vehicle was found.
currently the suspension bridge which is still in the finishing stage is under investigation of the police.
