One of the continued innovation of the Green Revolution is the forest city planting area and its expansion in the area of Provincial Government offices.
"Marvelous. It's a major breakthrough in the effort to preserve the environment. The tree planting movement in this forest city is environmentally friendly and deserve as an exemplary," said the Director General of the Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Bambang Supriyanto.
Bambang came to South Kalimantan to participate in the planting and launching of South Kalimantan Provincial Government's Forest City in Banjarbaru, Friday (Dec 6, 2019).
The LHK Ministry official hoped, the forest city in this office area to be kept expanding until it reach villages.
This movement is expected to be truly popular, until the contribution of South Kalimantan can be felt by Indonesia and even the world.
Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor remarked that the provincial government is very serious in building forest city as part of the Green Revolution Movement.
As a further step, in 2020 the provincial government will plant 1,000 hectares of the forest city.
"We want to develop further the greening in South Kalimantan with concept of forest city, namely a city with forest dimension. This year we are planting 80 hectares of trees. Next year we are targeting to plant 1,000 hectares of trees for forest city," he pointed out.
He acknowledged this is not easy to make South Kalimantan even more greener, but he believes the banua (local) togetherness will achieve success in doing greening.
He said, the greening program through the Green Revolution have been running well, sustainable, and even gained appreciation from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo as the best greening province in Indonesia.
When launching the forest city, the provincial government invited 400 students from the Islamic University Kalimantan (Uniska) to jointly plant 1,000 trees on an area of 4.2 hectare.
