Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - As many as 300 students from some colleges in North Hulu Sungai were prepared to become volunteers in the mitigation of disasters.
The Chairman of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) Almien Ashar Safari in Amuntai on Tuesday (Nov 12, 2019) said he was delighted with the participation of students and their involvement in the disaster mitigation.
"Young generation must take part in all fields, so youth and student should frequently participate in various training and education to improve their quality," he remarked.

Almien hoped the local government to continue involving the role of young generation in various activities of development, one of which in order to avoid them from doing unuseful things.
He acknowledged that the North Hulu Sungai (HSU) is very prone to disasters, such as floods, fires, landslides, and tornadoes.
"Our young generation should be trained to be responsive and capable in disaster mitigation," he pointed out.

Head of the HSU Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Sugeng Riyadi reported that the effort to prepare students to become volunteers in disaster handling was done through intensive training for two weeks until November 23.
"The training is centered at the Air Tawar Indah Golf Course in Tabur Villagge, North Amuntai Sub-district," he said.
Here, they spent the night, just like a quarantine, to make them focus in the training which is carried out for three classes. Each class consisted of 100 participants to participate in four days and three nights.

Sourceperson from TRC BPBD, 1001 Amuntai Military Command (Kodim), BPK, general kitchen team, Health Agency, the District National Narcotics Agency (BNNK), and South Kalimantan BPBD.
Deputy Regent H Husairi Abdi when opening the training reminded the participants about the important of interpreting the disaster mitigation activity as social activities.
"Instill sincere intention to help others, Insya Allah (God willing), the volunteers will feel happiness when they are able to help disaster victims," Husairi said.

The opening of the training was attended by Deputy Chief of HSU Police Comr Tukiman, the North Amuntai Sector Police chief, head of sub-district, acting director of PDAM Amuntai, sub-district military (Koramil) and the ranks of BPBD HSU.
