Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Teachers of an Early-Childhood Learning Center (PAUD) in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District have introduced science to their students.
Head master of Rumah Pintar (smart house) Tunas Harapan Dadi said, the methode applied here is STEAM (science, technical engineering, art, and math).
"Indirectly our educators introduce math, science, art, and engineering in the process of learning activity in PAUD," he said, Thursday.
Dadi remarked that indtroducing STEAM is not as complicated if ever imigined as learning science in junior or high school. It is done by introducing things around the school.

He gave a simple example. When children arrive school, they must fill their attendance by writing names, put signatures, and write
a clock number.
An electronic clock put infront of the attendance book to let them know engineering tool, writing the clock number is as introduction to math, while to sign using colourful stationery as a form of art.

The activities in school, such as washing hand, also has a science aspect to be introduced to them.
The STEAM teaching technique was obtained by Dadi and other teachers of PAUD Tunas Harapan during one-week internship at the pioneering natural school in Bandung, West Java.

Dadi said the technique in this PAUD is in accordance with the scientific approach in the 2013 PAUD curriculum. "Of course the government have studied in depth the application of this curriculum for early childhood education," he said.
Meanwhile, Dadi admitted that many PAUD were ineterest in inviting him as resource person in technical guidance for PAUD personnel. Even the Tunah Harapan Smart House has been a pilot in South Kalimantan for the last two years.
