Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The management of PT PLN South and Central Kalimantan has been fostering local purun crafters to be innovative in making various crafts.
Assistant Manager of Communication of the company Bayu Aswenda said the state owned electricity company does not only present if blackout occurs.
"PLN also cares about the welfare of community group, such as in Kampung Purun, Palem Urban Village, Banjabaru," he remarked, Wednesday when he visited the South Kalimantan Bureau of Antaranews Agency.
One of the aims to build the crafters, he continued, is to help them in improving their products, to increase production and sales turnover. Thus the welfare of the group will improve.
To help realizing it, PLN provided production capasity training, which focus on woven innovation.

The result was, if previously they produced purun weaving in the form of traditional basket (Banjar: bakul purun), but in training they taught to make 10 types of weaving.
One of the innovation of the weaving was in the form of bag with furing cloth, the handle replaced with synthetic and modified with typical cloth of sasirangan or added with other accessories. Finally, purun woven bags appear more elegant, neat, and good than
previous.

Besiden training, PLN though its Social Responsibility (CSR) program helped them with house production. It becomes training center, the center of purun weaving craftments products and others.
So far, PLN South and Central Kalimantan has been fostering two groups of purun weaving crafters, namely Acil Salak and Alfirdaus.
