Banjarmasin, (Antaranews, South Kalimantan) - Ahead of Ramadan 1434 Hijri, price of basic commodities in South Kalimantan creeping up especially for the price of beef and chicken meat.
Based on monitoring to some traditional markets in Banjarmasin, on Monday, the price of beef, which was Rp100 thousand per kilogram before, rose between Rp110 thousand to Rp120 thousand, chicken eggs from Rp17 thousand per kilo rose to about Rp20 thousand, and even more.
Chicken meat, from Rp30 thousand has increased between Rp35 thousand to Rp40 thousand per head, as well as spices such as onion, with an increase between Rp 6 thousand to Rp 7 thousand per kilogram. Red onion was quite varied in accordance to origin and condition. Burma onions from Rp23 thousand now became Rp32.500 per kilo. While Bima’s onions formerly Rp34 thousand rose to Rp38 thousand per kilo.
"The increase accordance with the size of the onion, some are Rp35 thousand per kilo and other Rp33 thousand per kilo, and the average increase is Rp4 thousand per kilo," said one trader, Isah.
Head of South Kalimantan Industry and Trade Agency, Wariansi Farida, said the increase in beef or chicken before Eid, was reasonable. Because, demand for meat increased sharply compared to normal days, as well as eggs, let alone wadai (cake) markets in almost all regions of South Kalimantan.
For chicken, he said, based on information from animal husbandry agency, the increase was also driven by rising prices of chicken feed and DOC, not only because of Ramadan.
