Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Banjarmasin Drug Detective Unit (Satresnarkoba) has set a new record in its history after seizing 12 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (sabu-sabu) before it was smuggled to Banjarmasin.
"Congratulation. This is a great success for the Banjarmasin Police Drug Detective Unit which has been fully backed by the South Kalimantan Regional Police's Directorate of Narcotics Investigation in its disclosure," said South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Yazid Fanani on Sunday (30/12).
Appreciation for the performance of his ranks was shown by the police chief by directly leading the case's exposure to the media on the City Police's headquarters courtyard. Also present a number of the main officials of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, including the Director of Narcotics Investigation Sr Comr Wisnu Widarto.
Police chief revealed that the arrest of a suspect S (22), who carried large quantities of sabu-sabu, originated from information obtained by officials that there would be a large shipment of drugs from Malaysia via Sumatra to the city of Banjarmasin.
The police also conducted a network mapping to find out. "Initial information, the crystal meth was allegedly imported and circulated to celebrate the New Year's Eve party in the city of Banjarmasin and its surroundings," said the Regional Police Chief.
While Banjarmasin Police Chief Sr Comr Sumarto added, the chronology of the crackdown began when officers followed the perpetrator from Banjarmasin on December 22, 2018 to Java Island, precisely in Malang.
Officers had lost track, because the perpetrators used ID cards with fake identities to trick the police in the field.
However, some time later, there were hints that the perpetrator was already in Sumatra. The officer rushed to trace it from the city of Palembang to the city of Bandar Lampung.
In Bandar Lampung, on December 24, 2018, officers received information that the perpetrator was in Jalan Lintas Sumatera Km 28, Natar, Branti Raya, South Lampung District.
Around 1:30 p.m., the police met the culprit carrying a black suitcase. The ambush was immediately carried out because of the movements of the perpetrator who was suspicious of seeing the officers and trying to escape.
"It was true that in the suitcase there were 12 large packages of sabu-sabu to be brought to Banjarmasin," explained Sumarto accompanied by the Head of the Satresnarkoba Comr Herry Purwanto.
By thwarting the circulation of the large quantities of sabu-sabu, the police managed to save 240 thousand drug users assuming that 1 gram of sabu-sabu consumed by 20 people.
Previously, Banjarmasin Police Satresnarkoba revealed the trafficking of five kilograms of crystal meth.
During 2018, the Banjarmasin Satresnarkoba arrested 468 suspects from 371 police reports with evidence of 18,439.06 grams of sabu-sabu, 589 ecstasy pills, and 130,121 Zenith or Carnophen pills.
The biggest catch record of narcotics in South Kalimantan is still held by the South Kalimantan Regional Police's Directorate of Narcotics Investigation which seized as much as 20 kilograms of sabu-sabu of Malaysian ring on July 15, 2018.
