Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor stated that the construction of a sports center in his province which consist of 13 districts and cities continues.

The statement was in response to the general view of the PDI-P fraction of the South Kalimantan Council Assembly (DPRD) on the Bill on the Accountability of the 2017 Budget at a plenary session chaired by Deputy Chairman Asbullah in Banjarmasin on Thursday.

The reason, according to the number one person in the provincial government, the sport center is part of the facilities and infrastructure for coaching and improvement of athletes achievements, especially to face the national championships.

"So even if we do not host the National Sports Week (PON) in 2024, we will still build a sports center," he said in the answer read by Assistant III of General Administration Syamsir.

"The existence of the sport center can be an opportunity for South Kalimantan to host the next PON," said Sahbirin Noor.

Previously, the PDI-P faction chaired by Syafruddin H Maming argued that the sports center development plan needs to be reviewed, as it failed to host PON 2024.

"Funds for the construction of the sports center may be better diverted for other activities that are more useful for the people of South Kalimantan," the PDI-P politicians suggest.
