Kitchen of the Karang Intan Drug Penitentiary in Banjar District, South Kalimantan, has bagged a halal certificate issued by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Religious Affairs Ministry (Kemenag).

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) we already have halal certificate for food and drinks processing," said the Karang Intan Drug Penitentiary Warden Wahyu Susetyo here on Monday.

Not only from BPJPH, the halal label was also given by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of South Kalimantan after the Halal Examination Agency (LPH) of the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services (BSPJI) Banjarbaru examined the halal of food and drinks at the Karang Intan correction.

Wahyu stated that the halal certificate issuance provides certainty and the sense of security regarding the availability of halal products in services provided by the penitentiary.

As a result, the basic rights of the inmates regarding cleanliness, hygiene and halal food and drinks consumption are fulfilled.

This is the fruit of the penitentiary's commitment to provide the best for the inmates, including food services.

He opined that kitchen is one of the important components in the correctional facility, because neglegence in managing it can have fatal consequences, such as food poisioning.

Thus, serving more hygienic and well managed food can provide gurantee for the food consumed by the inmates.
