The South Kalimantan provincial government confirmed its commitment to support beef food security for Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
 
Head of  South Kalimantan Plantation and Livestock Office (Disbunnak) Suparmi here on Monday said that various programs have been conducted to achieve the province's beef self-sufficiency.
 
The main program have been implemented, she said, is integrating cattle grazing with oil palm plantation or what called as Siska Ku Intip, which stands for cattle-palm oil integration based on core plasma livestock business partnership.
 
The program, which is initiated by Governor H Sahbirin Noor, collaborates with dozens of plam oil companies so that cattle population is increasing in the province.
 
Siska Ku Intip program, she said, has become a role model for national beef cattle development and received recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture.
 
This program is also collaborated with several other cattle develoment programs such as cow-buffalo the country's mainstay commodities or "Si Komandan".

"(With) this program, every year 28,000 calves are born," she said.
 
Other program is cattle farming on coal land, the development of cattle in Silvopastura will be combined into a sustainable cattle breeding program toward South Kalimantan the logistics gateway for Kalimantan.
 
"It is to support beef food security in IKN," she said.
 
To support the program according to the target, Suparmi said, her office had recorded the regional potential for developing cattle farming by utilizing the existing local resources.
 
"With this intensive move, it's not only increasing cattle owrnership but also open up employment opportunities which will make community to be more prosperous. This cattle integration program also opens up opportunities for small farmers to increase production and get better income," she said.
