The District Government of Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, informed that traders could sell 200-250 cows per day at the Pelaihari animal market.
Head of the Tanah Laut Livestock and Animal Health Agency (Disnakeswan) Iwan Persada said the average sales are based on levies issued by the district government.
"When buyers come to Pelaihari animal market every Monday or market day, on average they sell 300 to 500 heads of cattle," he said in Pelaihari, Monday (June 3, 2024).
In fact, cattle sales at Pelaihari animal market reached 600 heads per day as Eid al-Adha or Eid of Sacrifice approaching.
Cattle buyers coming to Pelaihari are not only from South Kalimantan, but also from Central and East Kalimantan.
"Pelaihari animal market is providing not only buying and selling cows, bufallo, and boats. We also provides various livestock health and livestock production services," said Iwan.
Iwan added that the stock of animals at the market to cater the need of the people of Tanah Laut for Eid al-Adha 2024.
Acting Regent of Tanah Laut H Syamsir Rahman explained that Pelaihari animal market is a gathering place for cows, buffalo, and goats traders ahead of Eid al-Adha.
"This indicates that animal market in Tanah Laut has become a special community of breeders here," he said.
However, he said, Pelaihari animal market needs improvements, especially in the cleaning channels and provision of spray equipment so that it can be clean quickly.
"That is one of the suport of the Tanah Laut government for Pelaihari animal market," said Syamsir.
He added that Diskeswan also provides injection mating services for female cows to produce healthy and quality calves.
