The South Kalimantan Environment and forestry Service together with IPB University alumni promoted disaster mitigation preparedness by planting 200 tree seedling in the District of Banjar.
Secretary of Volunteer Action of IPB Alumni Association (ARM HA-IPB) South Kalimantan Masikah Maylan Dewi in a written statement here on Saturday said the trees were planted in the disaster-prone area of Handil Purai village, Beruntung Baru sub-district.
It was part of the implementation of the association's working plan this year in disaster preparedness.
The Forest Plant Seed Agency (BPTH) of the Environment and forestry Service supported their action by providing 200 productive plant seeds.
They were kecrutan or African Tulip (Spathodea campanulata), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), Tabebuya (Handroanthus chrysotrichus), and jengkol (Pitechellobium jiringa).
Masikah said ARM HA-IPB, as an autonomous body in humanitarian formed by the central council of HA-IPB in 2019, views disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts as very important to protect the people and environment.

In fact, she said, Banjar District is a vulnerable area affected by floods, abration, forest and land fires.
“By planting these trees, we hope to provide long-term benefits for all communities around Banjar District,” said Masikah.
200 participants and volunteers took part in the action. They were residents, PKK team, Handil Purai Village cadres, staff and Social Welfare Workers (TKSK) of Beruntung Baru sub-district, BPBD Banjar, Darussalam Islamic Institue students in community service, Yuk Ngaji community. From the business community were PT Mitra Nasional Kualitas Kalsel (Minaku) and Koperasi Jasa Profesi (KJP) Cipta Prima Sejahtera.
Meanwhile, the Banjar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) supported the event's logistical needs and provided education on flood preparedness and mitigation to residents.
Chief Executive of Banjar BPBD Waskita hopes that Banjar District will become an example for other regions in making efforts to preserve environment and handling disasters through collaboratve action, as well as participation of all elements of society.
