The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan is promoting easting fish safaris to a number of regions as an effort to reduce stunting cases in 2024.
Head of South Kalimantan Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office Rusdi Hartono in Banjarmasin on Saturday said the safari was an effort to get people to like eating fish which is high in nutrition.
His office works with the provincial Family Welfare Empowerment Driving Team (TP-PKK) for liking fish safari in Tabukan Sub-district, Barito Kuala District, on January 24, 2024.
"There, the fish liking safari distributed 200 packages of processed fish to the community," he said.
In addition to alloting fish food assistance, the office also socialized the benefits of fish consumption to improve nutrition and health.
"We also motivate and educate (people) about the importance of eating fish and preventing stunting," he said.

The activity is important to carry out in Tabukan Sub-district, he said, because cases of stunting or children fail to grow have reached 30.61 percent.
The figure is higher that the provincial which the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) showed its reached 24.6 percent in 2022.
Rusdi admitted, even though fish consumption figures in South Kalimantan are high reaching 64.11 percen, the provincial government continues to ecourage fish eating as an effort to prevent stunting.
"Our fish consumption figuree are already quite high above the national average which is 56 percent. However, we still promote eating fish as one of steps to prevent stunting," he said.
For this reason, the provincial govenrment continue to hold fish easting safaris to a number of regions, especially those with high number of stunting cases.
