The Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) in collaboration with the IPB University's One Village One CEO (OVOC) team have educated santris and santriwatis (male and female students) of the Al Islam Islamic Boarding School (pesantren), Kambitin Village, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, about fish business.

The pesantren in Kambitin has been one of the pilot of Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program (PASS) since 2018. The company continues to prepares santri to be future entrepreneurs, independent after studying in pesantren.

By implementing Freedom in Learning, Freedom in Kampus or MBKM program, IPB lecturers and students provided assistance and education to santris.

Safrina Dyah Hardiningtyas, a lecturer at the Results Technology Dept at IPB, said one form of 'provocation" by the team to santris to be independent was learning about processed fish products.

"Our provocation is for better things that is with little effort we can sell processed fish products a lot," she said.

Dyah, who is a doctorate, began processing tilapia fish education by  first providing insights to santri and santriwati about concept of food quality.

"Besides delicious, food must be nutritious and halal. Processing business must be serious about cleanliness," she pointed out. 

Quality food processing, she added, starts from using clean water to cooking equipment that is free from rust and is not easily corrosive.

IPB team guided how to process tilapia fish into nutritious and delicious nuggets.

Tilapia fish nuggets use simple and easily available ingredients starting from tapioca flour, breadcrumbs with additional seasonings of onions and garlic.

"From the assistance of IPB team we receive knowledge about development of fish farming, including developing processed food made from fish," said Syamsudin, Chair of Fisheries Working Group of Al Islam school.

The activity was attended by Aliyah (high school) grade 2 and 3 students and they were assisted by IPB students who took part in the OVOC program for 75 days in Al Islam pesantren.

Rabiatun Adawiyah, a grade 3 student, acknowledged that after learnng she found that processing nuggets made from fish was quite practical and she was interested to open culinary business after finish studying in the pesantren.

"It taste delicious and how to make it is also practical. Alhamdulillah we obtain additional knowledge from the education of the IPB team," she said.

The One Village One CEO program is the result of matching fund through collaboration between business world and Kreasi Reka (Kedaireka).(Adv)
