The Government of South Kalimantan Province is now anticipating bird flu or avian influenza outbreak which has the potential to risk human.

Head of South Kalimantan Plantation and Livestock Service (Disbunnak) Suparmi in Banjarbaru on Saturday said anticipatory steps are taken intensively this year by conducting poultry inspection, which is the source of infection.

Suparmi said that her sides also collaborates and coordinates with all agencies in charge of animal husbandry and animal health in districts/cities throughout South Kalimantan and Banjarbaru Veterinary Center.
 
Those agencies, she said, jointly examine and took samples from sick birds for testing and confirming a diagnosis regarding the cause.

"We also provide medicine and multivitamins to increase body resistance as well as distributing disinfectant to increase livestock biosecurity and vaccines for healthy birds," she said.
 
Other measures are routinely implemented, including monitoring traffic and distribution of poultry between districts/cities and across provinces.

Next, report sick birds through the National Integrated Animal Health System and increase of Communication, Information, and Education (KIE).
 
"Coordination with South Kalimantan Health Office is conducted to anticipate cases of bird flu in human, considering that this disease is zoonotic," said Suparmi.
 
She said this is in accordance with the Governor H Sahbirin Noor direction regarding bird flu as a zoonosis whose control is a priority and is esxpected it can be controlled.
