The Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) asked the district residents to be alert, especially who live on the coastal area, as sea water flooding or rob is feared to hit the district.


"The potential of rob will occur for one week due to the phenomenon of new moon phase or super new moon," said Chief Executive of BPBD Sulhadi here, Monday.

BPBD, he said, has issued an early warning regarding the potential flooding from 12 to 19 November 2023.

The phenomenon has the potential to rise the maximum tide of seawater in the coastal areas of South Kalimantan and have an impact on people activities.

It feared to disrupt people's daily activities, transportation at ports and coasts, including loading and unloading activities, and activities in coastal settlements and fisheries.

According to Sulhadi, the maximum sea tide also has the potential in the waters of Kotabaru District, besides Tanah Bumbu, with an estimated time of 17.00-22.00 Wita with a maximum wave height of three meters.

To anticipate the disaster potential, BPBD urges all levels of residents to increase early vigilance, especially when carrying out activities out home.

For people living around the coast, they should stay alert, there is a possibility of high waves and rising sea tides.

"Fishermen should temporarily postpone fishing activities, if conditions endanger their safety," stressed Sulhadi.
