Banjarmasin Agricultural Quarantine has begun strengthening biosecurity by disinfecting cattle and their transportation, both ships and trucks, that enter South Kalimantan through the ports ahead of Eid al-Adha.

"Biosecurity needs to be increased to guarantee animal health, so the meat remains safe and suitable for people consumption," said Head of Banjarmasin Agricultural Quarantine Nur Hartanto here on Sunday.

Biosecurity is all the actions that are the first line of defense for outbreak control.

He admitted, the frequency of supply of beef cattle to South Kalimantan is increasing ahead of Eid al-Adha from once to three times a week. It is predicted to continue to increase until it approaches the celebration at the end of June.

Thus, the biosecurity implementation, supervision and inspection becomes an effort by quarantine officers to prevent the spread of disease to livestock being transported.
