Banjarmasin Agricultural Quarantine officials in Kotabaru Working Area, South Kalimantan, have destroyed some illegal poultry that came from Majene, West Sulawesi.
Sub-coordinator of the Banjarmasin Agricultural Quarantine Supervision and Enforcement Substance Lulus Riyanto said that the entry of chickens into other areas violated the requirements of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine.
"The chicken brought in did not meet the requirements according to Article 33 Law No. 21/2019. So, we took action to exterminate the pest carrying media,” said Lulus in Kotabaru, Saturday.
Even though the numbers are small, according to Lulus, the threat of quarantine animal pests (HPHK), especially Avian Influenza, is very large that it could endanger the livestock sector in Kotabaru in particular, and South Kalimantan in general.
The extermination of the chickens was witnessed by Pulau Laut Utara Police Chief Ipda Danu and representative of the Kotabaru Naval Base Second Lieutenant Adit.
Head of the Banjarmasin Class I Agricultural Quarantine drh. Nur Hartanto said that the four illegal chickens from Majene did not meet the requirements, even it had the potential to carry HPHK which could threaten public health.
Therefore, the Quarantine official in Kotabaru confiscated the poultry from the Sabuk Nusantara Motor Ship which docked on Monday (Oct 4, 2021) at 15.00 Wita (Central Indonesia Time).
Because of not having documents from the area of origin, the Quarantine official made detentions.
Furthermore, because the owner was not known, the chickens were then destroyed by slaughtering and burning.
