Two cities, Banjarmasin and Kotabaru, in South Kalimantan hit by an inflation of above 5 percent, Governor H Sahbirin Noor informed.

"It is above the target of inflation set by the government that should be below 5 percent," he said here on Tuesday.

Banjarmasin's last month inflation was recorded at 5,73 percent and it was higher in Kotabaru, which was 7.53 percent.  

Banjarmasin, Kotabaru, and Tanjung are three cities of inflation indicator in South Kalimantan.

"However, Tanjung's inflation was lower stood at 4.36 percent," said Sahbirin.

In an effort to control inflation, the governor together with regents and mayors in South Kalimantan signed a joint agreement at a high level meeting of the Regional Inflation Controlling Team (TPID) at Best Western Kindai Hotel Banjarmasin, Tuesday.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on regional governments to immediately conduct interventions against high inflation in their regions.

"(Please), conduct interventions in districts and cities with the highest inflation," the head of state noted at a meeting on inflation control with all regional heads, held in hybrid format at the State Palace on Monday (Sept 12, 2022).

The governor stressed that in order to realize accountability in controlling inflation, all related efforts must be right on target. 

Inflation in Banjarmasin and Kotabaru considered to have a different cause of problem, so they both need a different treatment.

He proposed four measures in controlling inflation, namely inter-regions collaboration (KAD) that should be intensified.

Then, market operation to assure price affordability, and the next encouragement of added value in agriculture sector, and the last distribution of subsidies in transportation sector.
