The Tabalong District Government has declared Jirak Village as a Snakehead Fish Village (snakehead fish locally known as haruan fish) considering its high potential.

Jirak Village in in the lowlands of Pugaan Sub-district is well-known as a producer of freshwater fish.

"Topographically, the development of freshwater fish farming in Jirak Village is very suitable, so that it can raise the status of this village," explained Regent Anang Syakhfiani, Thursday (15/9).

He said that as Haruan Fish Village, in the future Jirak Village could improve the economy.

According to several studies, snakehead fish has a higher nutritional content than other types of fish. It also contains albumin, which is a protein in blood plasma to keep fluids in the blood from leaking into other tissues. This protein also helps carry various substances throughout the body, such as hormones, vitamins, and enzymes.

However, as a flood-prone area, Anang admits that the agricultural sector in Jirak Village has not developed optimally, thus it needs breakthroughs in the sectors of fisheries and plantation.

According to the regent, the soil conditions in Jirak Village are suitable for the development of perennials such as oranges and rambutan.

"If necessary, plant rambutan Rapiah and duku Palembang fruit, because Jirak Village has a fertile land," said Anang.

The declaration of the Haruan Fish Village itself was marked by the release of the haruan mother fish and the harvest of pangasius fish in a pond owned by the Liang Perdana farmers group, Jirak Village.

Along with the declaration of Haruan Fish Village, a number of Jirak Village residents received a pond land certificate from the Tabalong Land Office.

Including the planting of coconut trees which was attended by the Military District Commander 1008 Tabalong Lt. Col. CZI Catur Witanto, Head of the Plantation and Livestock Office Norzain A Yani, Head of the Food Crops, Horticulture, and Food Security Office (DKPPTPH) Mugeni and other parties.
