The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan encouraged ownership of Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificates for small and large palm oil companies in the province, said Governor H Sahbirin Noor while attending the handover of ISPO 2022 certificates in Banjarmasin, Monday (March 21, 2022).

"Hopefully having this certificates can maintain the quality of palm oil management with appropriate standards.It is hoped that other palm oil plantation business actors will also have this certificate so that South Kalimantan palm oil has strong competitiveness in the global market," he pointed out.

He said that for several years oil palm plantation had grown rapidly in South Kalimantan. Not only in land expansion, but also in the processing sector of oil palm products.

Hundreds of thousands hectares of oil palm plantation are spread across several districts in South Kalimantan, both managed by companies and self-supporting people.

According to him, the future of ol palm plantation is very bright and profitable, both for increasing competitiveness and the regional economy as well as improving people's welfare.

"We certainly want that the development in all sectors are sustainable, especially oil palm plantations, not to disturb the natural ecosystem around them. This is what makes it important for every company in this sector to have an ISPO certificate," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Head of South Kalimantan Plantation and Livestock Office Suparmi said that almost 50 percent of oil palm company have ISPO certification.

“Out of 89 palm oil companies in South Kalimantan, 31 have been certified. It is hoped that all of them can be certified, including smallholder oil palm plantation,” said Suparmi.
