Tabalong District's Forest Management Unit (KPH) has secured more than seven cubic meters of illegal logging timber throughout 2021, from Ulin wood to mixed jungle wood.
Illegal timbers were confiscated during forest security activities at several Forest Management Resorts (RPH), said Tabalong KPH Forest Protection Section Head Zainal Abidin.
"Last year we handled six cases of illegal logging and a number of evidences were handed over to the South Kalimantan Forestry Office," he said in Tanjung, Monday.
Of the six cases of illegal logging, the most were in Panaan RPH with mixed forest woods reached 7.18 cubic meters.
The team also confiscated 40 pieces or 0.2 cubic meters of ironwood at the Misim RPH.
However, Zainal explained, some of the evidence of illegal logging could not be evacuated and had to be destroyed by means of nails.
"We were constrained by road access, which was quite difficult, evidence cannot be evacuated and destroyed by means of nails," said Zainal.
Meanwhile, the Tabalong KPH work area reaches 228,051 hectares spread over unit V Tabalong Kiwa and unit X Tabalong Kanan.
This work area refers to the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. SK. 363/Menlhk/Setjen/PLA.0/7/2021 concerning the Determination of Protected Forest Management Units (KPHL) and South Kalimantan Production Forest Management Units (KPHP).
