Heavy rainfall from Sunday (6/2) night to Monday (7/2) morning in South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District, especially in upstream or mountainou areas, caused floods and landslides.

Head of HSS Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Syamsudin in Kandangan said that rainfall had caused an increase in river water discharge, such as in the villages of Tanuhi, Loksado, and Malinau, Loksado Sub-district.

"Several areas are affected by the overflow of Amandit River, in upper it occurred in Loksado Sub-district and Padang Batung Sub-district," he said.

Two houses were swept away and one was damaged in Malinau. Water flowed rapidly from mountains. Preparation for handling was carried out in the lower area, especially Kandangan Sub-district.

Volunteers have been on standby at vulnerable points to evacuate residents who need help. 

"We estimate the water will recede Insya Allah around 20.00 Wita tonight. The water level on the streeats in Kandangan is 20 to 30 cm," he said.

According to him, the impact of flood in residential areas has not been fully recorded, while residents remained in their homes because they were still safe. He urged residents to stay vigilant.

Meanwhile, landslides occurred at two places, on Jalan Poros Lumpangi-Malinau and in Kandihin, Halunuk Village, Loksado Sub-disrict.

“Landslide on Jalan Poros Lumpangi-Malinau has been handled, people and vehicles can pass, while in Kandihin is still being tackled by the BPBD team,” he said.
