Commander of the 101/Antasari Military Command Brigadier General TNI Firmansyah has asked members of the press to work together to save rambai mangrove in Barito Kuala District to protect the river ecosystem which is the habitat of various endemic animals.
"The target of rambai mangrove preserving this time is the Bakut Island Nature Park, Anjir Muara Sub-district, Barito Kuala, by inviting members of the press to plant rambai tree seeds," said Commander of the 101/Antasari Provincial Military Command Brigadier General TNI Firmansyah here on Thursday.
The planting of rambai seeds in the Barito River was also supported by the South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) who is authorized in the conservation and save protected flora and fauna.
Firman said that rambai mangrove is vital in preventing erosion of areas by river or sea as well as preserving the natural ecosystem that grows around the river.
"This is part of Green Revolution activities that are being echoed by the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan, that we all have to support for the sustainability of life on earth," he said.
On the other hand, the commander hopes that the South Kalimantan's natural tourism potential will be more widely known, such as river cruising to enjoy the natural beauty of Bumi Antasari (South Kalimantan's nickname).
"Bakut Island is a place to live for bekantan (proboscis monkeys) which are the mascot of South Kalimantan fauna. Tourists can see directly their behaviors in the wild with rambai mangrove that are preserved," he said.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of PWI South Kalimantan Yusni Hardi expressed his gratitude to the commander for his initiative to invite members of the press to plant rambai mangrove seedlings.
