The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) taekwondo athletes won six gold medals, two silver, and two bronze at the Indonesia Taekwondo Youth Virtual Championship in Jakarta.

Muhammad Anshari, M Husien Azmi, Ihsanul Amin, Wana, Mislawati, and Fitriani who won gold medals in men's and women's individual Poomsae. 

While Melati Permatasari and Nurul Fitri won silver medals and Widya Safitri and Shafira Raisa Nabila won the bronze medals at the championship held by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on November 6-7, 2021. 

The youngest athlete who won the gold medal is Muhammad Anshari. He is six years old and has taken taekwondo training since he was four.

For HSU taekwondo athletes, the 2021 Indonesia Taekwondo Youth Virtual Championship was the first national championship they participated in. 

"We are proud of this achievement at the national level and we will try -- but it's not a promise -- that the winner athletes will get bonuses in 2022," said Head of Sports Section of the HSU Youth and Sports Agency Sugiannor here on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

He said that the agency donated training equipment in the form of mats for taekwondo training through KONI.

Sugiannor hopes that the taekwondo athletes to maintain and improve their achievement. The agency is ready to support together with KONI to improve the achievement of all sports.

HSU taekwondo coach who is also manager of the Amuntai Taekwondo Center (ATC) Sabeum Sela Rusilawati said that since the establishment of the center it has had more than 100 members.

"Every week there is always two to three people registering for taekwondo training," she said.

The next, she said, the center prepares the athletes to take part at the South Kalimantan provincial championship in December 2021 and in February 2022  for senior athletes, then the Provincial Sports Games in HSS in October 2022.
