A member of Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) asked the local government to save people and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from illegal peer-to-peer lending fintech (financial technology).
"They (people and business actors) don't know behind the ease of lending there is a trap," said a member of Commission II of the Kotabaru DPRD Awaludin here, Friday.
He asked the district government through related agencies to educate the public and micro-entrepreneurs about illegal online loans and their negative impacts.
He also hopes for the optimization of participation of local financial institutions in serving the community and MSMEs to save them from being the victims of online illegal lending.
"This is important. The (illegal) online borrowers have made it easy for people to lend money without burdensome conditions, that is why so many are tempted and eventually fall into a trap," he said.
Previously, the South Kalimantan Provincial Police Chief Inspector General Rikwanto gave an award to the Kotabaru Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) M Gafur Aditya Harisada Siregar and his team for successfully uncovering the first illegal loans case in Kotabaru, which involved a foreigner from China.
