The fresh fruit bunch (FFB) price received by farmers in Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, continues to rise and has reached IDR2,900 per kg.

Abi Hanifah, an oil palm plantation businessman in Kotabaru said on Friday that the FFB price has been periodically increasing, without declining.

"The increase is quite good with a multiple of IDR100 per kg," he said.

Although the price is getting better, farmers' income is relatively stable, because the fruit they harvested continues to decrease.

It was different to early 2021 when FFB price rose three times in a row with multiple ranging from IDR50-IDR60 per kg, but a few days later the price dropped by a multiple of IDR100/kg.

FFB trader in Kotabaru, Helmi said that the price on Friday was set at IDR2,900/kg.

Helmi, a trader who collects FFB from self-supporting farmers, always informs the development of FFB prices on an almost daily basis.

Previously, Deputy Speaker of Kotabaru DPRD M Mugni urged the village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) in Kotabaru that they would be able to maintain the price of fresh fruit bunch to be stable.

"With the inauguration of biodiesel factory in Tanah Bumbu District by President Jokowi, there should be a greater opportunity for farmers or farmer groups in Kotabaru to be more creative in building a mini crude palm oil (CPO) industry," he said.

The Golkar politician hopes that every sub-district in the north area of Kotabaru to be able to sell CPO and that will indirectly increase the price of FFB at the farmer level.
