The South Kalimantan National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has started the swimming competition sweetly by immediately grabbing three gold medals at the XVI National Paralympic Games (Peparnas) 2021 in Papua, Monday.

The para-athletes who won the gold medals were M Tauhidi Fatahillah of S14 class in 100-meter men's freestyle and Norlatifah of S9 class in 50 meter women's backstroke.

"The third gold medal won by M Fajar Rianur in 50 meters men's backstroke," said South Kalimantan NPC swimming coach Zuhriannor, who is familiarly called Pak Ateng.

In total that day, South Kalimantan grabbed seven medals from swimming, namely three gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals.

The silver medal, said Pak Ateng, was grabbed by Norlatifah in the 100-meter freestyle.

Meanwhile, bronze medalists were Fitriah in the 100-meter freestyle, Mahdian Saputra in the 50-meter men backstroke, and Saudah in women's 50-meter breaststroke.

"We are grateful that our athletes have fought well on the first day of swimming competition, we will try to get more medals in the next competition," he said.

There are still five days of swimming competition at Peparnas which is held at the Lukas Enembe Aquatic Stadium in Jayapura District.

Pak Ateng said there are 25 swimming athletes who were brought with a target of 20 gold medals.
