The Manpower Ministry has invited all elements of the society to focus on combating unemployment in the country.
"Unemployment is one of the problems that keeps being a concern to all parties," the Manpower Ministry's Secretary-General Anwar Sanusi said in a written statement received here on Friday.
The ministry has invited all elements of the society, especially those working under the ministry, to concentrate on the issue of unemployment, he informed.
The ministry has called for concerted efforts for handling the issue through government policies and programs, both at the central and regional levels, as well as support from the private sector, he stated.
Efforts to beat unemployment in the devastating economic situation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic are crucial to prevent the emergence of new social problems, he remarked.
Sanusi also invited the Leaders' Communication Forum of the Private Workforce Placement Agency (LPTKS) and the Domestic Worker Allocation Agency (LPPRT) to participate in finding breakthroughs in tackling unemployment.
"Let's continue to look for breakthrough solutions, ways to how we can open job opportunities for new labor, especially those affected by the pandemic," he remarked while opening the virtual LPTKS and LPPRT Leaders' Communication Forum on Thursday.
He believed that the forum of the two agencies can contribute to resolving unemployment. "Hopefully in the forum that we did today, there are some breakthroughs at least for handling the difficult situation in this pandemic."
To reduce unemployment and poverty, the ministry has consistently made efforts through five pillars: improvement of employment services and information systems; improvement of workers' skills and capacity; development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as entrepreneurship; infrastructure improvement, including community-based infrastructure; and the employment emergency program, he informed.
"I am sure, these five pillars will deliver breakthroughs to get out of this difficult problem," he affirmed.
