South Kalimantan has experienced a 0.35 percent deflation in June 2021 due to price decline as indicated in several indexes of the spending group.

Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) South Kalimantan Yos Rusdiansyah, quoted from the official statistical news in Banjarbaru, on Friday noted the decline in Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 113.73 in May 2021 to 113.50 in June 2021.

"The CPI declined, consequently Banjarmasin and Kotabaru experienced deflation of 0.41 and 0.42 percent respectively, and Tanjung recorded an inflation of 0.36 percent," he said.

If calculated based on the calendar year, in June 2021 South Kalimantan saw inflation of 0.81 percent, while year on year inflation rate (June 2021 against June 2020) 2.19 percent.

The trigger of deflation was a decline in prices in the group of transportation by 3.30 percent, in the food, beverage, and tobacco group 0.21 percent, and clothing group by 0.06 percent. 

Meanwhile, price increases occurred in the group of recreation, sports, and culture by 0.62 percent, personal care, and other services group by 0.59 percent, equipment, and household routine equipment by 0.21 percent. 

Then, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel groups 0.11 percent, information, communication, and financial services group 0.03 percent, and health group 0.02 percent. 

"Commodities experienced a decrease in prices with the highest contribution to deflation in South Kalimantan including air transportation, cayenne pepper, red chili, chicken meat, and shallots," said the new head of BPS South Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, commodities that increased in price with the highest share of inflation including snakehead fish, eggs, mango, mackerel, and long beans. 

Nine cities in Kalimantan recorded inflation, while three cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Singkawang 1.36 percent and the lowest in Tanjung Selor 0.01 percent. 

The deepest deflation was in Kotabaru 0.42 percent, and the lowest in Tarakan 0.18 percent.
