The Barito Kuala (Batola) District Government is developing haruan (snakehead) fish aquaculture with biofloc system and targeted Teluk Tamba village, Tabukan Sub-district, as haruan producer village.
Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS marked the launch of haruan fish farming in Teluk Tamba Village on Wednesday (June 30, 2021) by sowing fish seeds.
This freshwater fish pond will be carried out by farmers who are members of the Haruan Tamba Kampung Fish Aquaculture Group.
Eight biofloc containers are prepared. One container contains 1,000 haruan fish seeds which are expected to be harvested in the next eight months.
Although it is a pilot stage, the Food Security and Agriculture Office optimistic that this pilot will be successful and can produce fish as well as various products made from processed haruan fish.
"Haruan contains a lot of albumins which is good for healing internal wounds," said Head of DKPP Rahmanuddin Murad.

He is optimistic that the cultivation will be 80-90 percent successful because the life force and growth are easy.
"Haruan can live in the river alone under various conditions, so it should be better if it is properly cared for, its water and food," he said.
Rahmanuddin added, in the first three months the fish will be fed pellets, then in the next four months will be fed chopper fish.
Regarding the selection of haruan fish, he said,it was due to various benefits. Banjar people like this local fish, and it often affects inflation in South Kalimantan, and Batola wants to make Teluk Tamba a haruan-producing village.
"This is also a step to prevent haruan from extinction, considering that until now the availability of haruan fish is only caught," he said.
