Kotabaru again opened a farmer's market at the Siring Laut attraction. It was supported by the Industry, Trade, and Cooperative Office (Disperindagkop), Agriculture Agency, Fisheries and Food Security Office, as well as the Kotabaru chapter of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog).
"Here various types of basic needs are sold, including rice, cooking oil, sugar, shallots, garlic, and others. They are cheaper than the market price," said the District Secretary of Kotabaru Said Ahmad here on Monday.
Shallots, for example, sell for Rp28,000 per kg in the market, here Rp22.000. Shallots sold are native plants from local farmers from Sengayam, Kotabaru.
Said said that farmer's market was held in a series of 100 working days of regent and deputy regent of Kotabaru and to help people affected by COVID-19.
"Insya Allah it will be held twice a month," he said.
According to him, the farmer's market is also to help farmers sell their products directly to consumers with the hope of increasing agricultural products in Kotabaru District.
"The farmer's market also to open up the insight of farmers, because so far farmers sell their products through middlemen. Now they can sell directly to the community," he said.
The Secretary also reminded the public who visited the farmer's market to always wear masks and keep their distance, because Kotabaru is still in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Umi, one of the consumers, said that she really supported the activities carried out by the district government. According to her everything seems to be expensive during the pandemic.
"Alhamdulillah, this is very helpful, especially during a pandemic like this, prices of basic needs can be said to be very expensive. (I) hope this activity will continue so it will help residents' kitchen needs," she said.
