As many as 6,000 state civil apparatus (ASN) working for the Banjarmasin City Government began to receive COVID jabs, Tuesday (March 9, 2021).

Acting Mayor H Mukhyar, who was the first the get the COVID shot, hoped to be an example for society and its subordinates.

This vaccination was indeed part of the second phase of the program, which began from 1st March 2021, and targeted elderly as well as public service, including ASN. 

"This vaccine is not dangerous. Don't be afraid, this is our effort so that our bodies are always ready to face the virus," he said.

He appealed to all the people of Banjarmasin city, especially who are in the target of vaccination, to support the program by participating to come to the health facilities that serve it.

Head of Health Agency Machli Riyadi said especially for ASN in the city government 6,000 are targeted to be vaccinated. Surely it will be carried out in stages according to the availability of the vaccine.

In the second phase of vaccination, Banjarmasin has received 1,490 vials of vaccine or equivalent to 14,900 doses for only 7,450 people for twice vaccine jabs.

"The available vaccine is divided into several main targets, namely elderly, TNI-Polri (Army and Police), health workers, teacher, and ASN," he explained.

Machli said that the vaccine works to increase the body's immunity from exposure to COVID-19. Even though anyone is still infected, it will be not as bad as people who have not been vaccinated.

According to him,  the main purpose of vaccination is to build heard immunity or group immunity in the community.

"When it has been built, then those who have been vaccinated will protect family members or people around them who have not been vaccinated," he said.
