The post-major flood in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District had left not only loss of material and casualties, but also traumatic threats to the residents.
A mother in Alat Seberang Village, Hantakan Sub-district, for example, she shut herself up for three days in a goat pen, grieved by her house lost in flood.
"She was not only being traumatized but was shaken because her house left nothing after swept away by the flood. Now she was evacuated by residents, but still closed herself from interacting," said an ACT Tabalong volunteer, Doni, Thursday (Feb 4, 2021).
According to Doni, who was in and out of the HST disaster area, the post-flood handling for trauma recovery should be a common concern in order the community could immediately rise from mental adversity that could threaten their future.
Previously, ACT together with Sayangi Sesama Community (KS2) from Tabalong carried out trauma healing for children in Waki Village, Batu Benawa Sub-district, and Alat Village, Hantakan Sub-district, HST.
Chairwoman of KS2 Tabalong Erlina Effendi confirmed that the KS2 found many people who experienced traumatic conditions.
However, their priority, for the time being, is helping the children's mental recovery. Anyhow, the community has planned trauma healing for adults, as there already are practitioners ready to help.
"We have received confirmation from Tabalong Sefter Community to carry out trauma healing in HST. Insha Allah next Saturday we will depart with Tabalong Sefter," said Erlina.
