The price of cayenne pepper continues to soar and is evenly occurs throughout the traditional markets in Tanah Bumbu District in the last few days, even now it has reached IDR100,000/kg.

"It's been five days hot chili pepper price has reached IDR100,000/kg, while tiung chili IDR90,000/kg," said one of merchant at Ampera Market, Simpang Empat Sub-district, Ratih, Saturday.

Previously, hot chili pepper price was only IDR60,000/kg, while tiung chili IDR40.000/kg. When the price at the collector level rose, the traders also increase the price to avoid losses.

She said, before the hike of price in one day an average of 80 kg hot chili pepper were sold, but currently only 50 kg at most.

"We don't know exactly what has caused the price of chili to soar, because the price from the collectors has risen so also we have to increase the price," she said.

Head of the Tanah Bumbu Trade and Industry Agency H. Deni Hariyanto through the Head of Trade Division Hariansyah explained that hot chili pepper price in traditional markets has indeed increased by around IDR18,000/kg since early January.

"The increase in chili price was due to the annual cycle or extreme weather which caused farmers failing to harvest crop," he said.
