The government-owned water company PDAM Bandarmasih here will change its legal status to be Perusahaan Perseroan Daerah (Perseroda) or regional public company in order to develop its business.
The Banjarmasin City Legislative Council (DPRD) is currently working on the draft bill (raperda) regarding the change of the PDAM Bandarmasih status.
According to a DPRD member H M Faisal Hariyadi, one of the crucial points in the draft is for the company, whose majority shares owned by the city government, is to develop its business.
"There are several articles in the draft we have discussed and agreed upon, crucial articles that answer the public question well, including about the future steps when PDAM becomes perseroda," he said here, Saturday.
The public, said the PAN politician, also wants to know if PDAM becomes perseroda whether it has the same function to provide clean water.
"We are trying to develop this, perseroda to develop its wings," said the chairman of Commission II, added that it including to explore the bottled water business.
"We encourage the development of its business wings, so its benefits will overcome (the problem of) tariff increase as well as to improve its services," he said.
PDAM Bandarmasih currently plays an important role for more than 150 thousand households or customers in the city. The majority of its shares (81 percent) owned by the city government of Banjarmasin, then the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan 13 percent, and the central government 6 percent.
