Tanah Laut Regent HM Sukamta said that the JH37 hybrid maize seed from Maros will be produced in Tanah Laut to be labeled with Katuju (Banjar language means like).

"The choosing of Katuju label aims to make farmers here like the seed and become the pride of people of Kalimantan," said Regent HM Sukamta, during the big harvest of farmer corporation based-JH37 hybrid corn seed in Banua Lawas Village, Takisung Sub-district, Tuesday (Oct 13, 2020).

Sukamta said that if farmers use their own seed, the amount of production can reach seven tons or even 12 tons if maximized.

“We believe that our nutrients, our microbes in our region will be suitable, thus the growth process will be better and it will be profitable,” he said.

Using these seeds, according to him, can benefit around Rp20,000 to Rp25,000 rather than using seeds from outside and can save expenses.

The regent added that he would give full support to PT Tunas Widji Inti Nayottama (PT TWINN) which will later produce the seeds, while raw materials from the local people.

The event was also attended by Head of South Kalimantan Agriculture and Horticulture Agency Syamsiar Rahman, Head of Plant Research Center Serelia Maros Muhammad Azrai, Acting South Kalimantan Regional Secretary Roy Rizali, and the Tanah Laut Regional Leaders Coordination Forum.
