Kotabaru Regent H Sayed Jafar together with farmers in Sungai Pasir Village, Pulau Laut Tengah Sub-district, enjoyed a big harvest on Tuesday.
He said agriculture was one of the central government program, and included in the vision and mission of the current government of Kotabaru, namely agribusiness and tourism.
While the big harvest, he pointed out, was to support food availability in the face of COVID-19 and to improve the quality through intensification of 100 hectares of paddy field in Kotabaru.
"Hopefully, the rice yield continues to increase every year, until Kotabaru becomes a food self-sufficiency area," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Kotabaru Agriculture Office Hairuddin explained that the 25 hectare rice harvest in Sungai Pasir Village produced 6,7 tons of dried harvested rice per hectare.
"There was an increase from the previous year with only three to four tons per hectare," he said.

He explained that the intensification of 100 hectares of agribusiness in Kotabaru was carried out in four locations, namely 25 hectares each in Sungai Pasir Village, Pulau Laut Tengah, Teluk Masjid Village in Pulau Laut Timur Sub-district, Pudi Village in Pamukan Selatan, and Bakau Village in Pamukan Utara.
"We must continue to improve the results, never feel satisfied, so that the community's economy will improve," he said.
On that occasion, Kotabaru regent handed over some assistance of agriculture tools and rice packaging to Bintang Kejora Farmers Group of Sungai Pasir Village.
Also present at the paddy harvest event the speaker of Kotabaru DPRD, Forkopimda, members of DPRD, heads of government agencies, head of Pulau Laut Tengah sub-district, heads of villages, and farmers.
