The hottest chili of Hiyung has brought Tapin District into the Public Service Innovation Competition (KIPP) held by the Administrative-and-Bureaucratic-Reform-Ministry.


Tapin Regent HM Arifin Arpan happily welcomed the entry of hottest chili --which pungency 17 times of the ordinary chili-- into the 2020 Top 99 Public Service Innovation.

"This is good news, especially the Hiyung chili in a village in Tapin Tengah Sub-district which is managed by a group of youth (karang taruna) in the village," he said in Rantau, Monday.

Arifin Arpan said, the Hiyung farming itself was able to improve the economy of the villagers, who mostly used to work by collecting firewood for fuel.

"(Now) there are many chili processed products, such as shredded chili, bottled or packed chili sauce, and others which have improved the rural economy through BUMdes (village-owned enterprise)," he said.

The development of Hiyung chili was an effort of the Tapin government by embracing the millennial in improving the economy in the village and encouraging creative youth.

"We hope that in the dry season later, people, especially in Hiyung Village, will be able to protect the chili farmland to avoid forest and land fires," the regent said.

He also hoped, the Hiyung chili will go global, and its 17 folds spiciness to bring Tapin to the top of public service innovation in 2020.

The Hiyung chili has been registered as a local variety in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia with a number 09/PLV/2012 on April 12, 2012.
