Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina symbolically handed over food packages and cash of Rp250 thousand to residents in Surgi Mufti Urban Village, North Banjarmasin, Tuesday (April 28, 2020).

"Distribution of social assistance (for people affected by COVID-19) from the city government is in stages per sub-district. In North Banjarmasin 8.603 heads family who obtain," he said.

The city government targets 30 thousand packages to be distributed to five sub-districts for people victimized by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He asserted that this social assistance is purely the initiative of the city government to help people affected by the COVID-19 outbreak until the Large Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) was applied.

"So I reiterate again when PSBB is applied there is no obligation for local government to share food, but the city government is carrying it out to minimize social and economical impacts," he explained.

"Why it just now or on the 5th day of PBB is being distributed, because we need time for valid data of the recipients," Ibnu Sina said.

Because he said, those who entitled to receive the food package and cash of Rp250 thousand are of poor people who are not recorded in the central government's social security program.

"Because social assistance from the center will also be distributed this Sunday based on the post office information," he said.
