The District Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, in collaboration with air transportation provider company Trans Nusa will open a new flight route to Balikpapan and Surabaya.

"We just met with the owner of Trans Nusa to discuss plan to open new route of Balikpapan-Kotabaru-Surabaya," Regent of Kotabaru H Sayed Jafar remarked here, Wednesday (March 11, 2020).

In addition, the government will also collaborate with several companies in Kotabaru to help smoothing the initial opening, which is considered to be very difficult.

"For the initial opening there is a partnership with BUMD (the district owned company), in order the airline not to suffer losses when opening this new route," he pointed out.

Asked about the target of time to open the new flights, the regent wanted it as soon as possible, for the reason Kotabaru will hold a national event and want it to be ready.

"With this new flight route, people and tourists have many choices to go to Kotabaru, whether through Makasar, Banjarmasin, Balikapan or Surabaya," Sayed Jafar said.

According to him, if this new route running and developing, Trans Nusa will open a cargo service. It can be utilised to send products of plantation, fisheries, and handicrafts of Kotabaru, and no more send them in a long time.

"We don't want experiences like the previous airlines who suffered losses after opening new route, so we all join in to work together so it can run more smoothly," he stated.
