The Governor of South Kalimantan H Sahbirin Noor has recorded history when he and 24 thousand local residents ate durian together in Kiram Village, Karang Intan sub-district, Banjar District, Saturday (January 18, 2020).
Uncle Birin, nickname of the governor, declared that with this people's party South Kalimanta receieved two awards from the Indonesia World Achievement Institute (Leprid). First for the most number of participants and second for the most number of fruits. Here as many as 43 thousands of durian were distributed to 24 thousand people attended the party.
After successfully carried out national scale activities, including National Family Day (Harganas), Mental Revolution, and National Social Solidarity Day (HKSN) in 2019, early this year, the province with 4,1 million population, again recorded a history.
"Today we eat durian together and receive awards and record a history. I present it to the people of South Kalimantan,” Uncle Birin remarked.

With event like this, he was determined to make durian as an economic support in South Kalimantan.
"At present about 20 percent of South Kalimantan economy is still contributed by coal, which can run out at any time," the governor who is familiar to the media crew pointed out.
In the future, the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan wants to replace coal withrenewable natural resources through agriculture, one of which is durian.
Uncle Birin hoped in the future durian and other local fruits of South Kalimantan to become renewable natural resources capable of supporting economy and welfare of the local people.
In addition to eating durian together, in the festival was held durian contest and exhibition of exotic fruits of South Kalimantan.
In the judging, Si Mangkal durian from Tanah Laut District won the first champion, and si Tangkai Panjang, also from Tanah Laut, as the second winner. While the third place won by Banjar District with Si Kampat durian.
