The Government of Banjar District have registered 10 types of local durians to become national superior varieties and to be widely known as the durians from Banjar. 


"We have registered 10 types of durian to the Center for Plant Variety and Agricultural Licensing Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture to be processed as national superior varieties," Regent of Banjar Khalilurrahman remarked here, Wednesday (jan 8, 2020). 

The 10 varieties of durian, which have been listed were Paman Birin (Uncle Birin), Dodol Mas Cinta, Gading Abirau, Idangan Biih, Hintalu (Egg), Panyangat Kuning (Yellow Stinger), Gantang 88, Si Kolam and Si Penganten.

According to the regent, every year the local government hold durian contest in the durian producing villages, such as Mandikapau Barat Viilage, held on Wednesday (Jan 8, 2020).

Banjar, he said, is the largest producer of durian in south Kalimantan and it is a pride, especially several of its durian varieties have been recognized as national superior varieties.

"Three varieties have been recognized as national superior varieties, namely si Jagung, Si Hijau and Si Dodol and 10 other varieties are proposed to get siminlar status from the central agency," he pointed out. 

Considering the big potential, the Food Crops and Horticulture togeher with farmers at the fruits producing centers keep developing the commodity.

Meanwhile, the contest, which also attended by Director of fruit and Horticulture of the Agriculture Ministry Liferdi Lukman, who appreciated the festival. 

The contest won by Eldi Afani from Mandikapau Barat Village with his durian Duri Hitam, followed by Muhammad Fauzan with si Satria durian and the third winner Sarpani through si Belek durian.
