The South Kalimantan Forestry Agency is attempting to close all transportation routes of illegal logging, which are established illegally by logging suspects in production and protected forests.
Head of the agency Hanif Faisol Nurrofiq here on Tuesday said, during dry season the agency was focus on forest and land fire prevention carried out in almost all regions.
But the supervisions against unlicensed logging have been decreased and as a result these forestry crime were rife in several areas, including Tanah Laut.

Currently, he revealed, some cases of illegal logging are under legal proceeding in Tanah Laut Police or in the Forestry Agency. The perpetrators purposely took advantage of the situation to cut down trees illegally when entire team focus on the handling of forest and land fires.
Even, he pointed out, the suspects had managed to open some routes using heavy equipments to transport illegal logs from forests to several locations they had prepared.

At this time, he assured, these routes have been closed to reduces the movements of illegal logging perpetrators.

While logs with large diameters they cut down have been secured by the agency and Tanah Laut Police as well, whereas the small ones were destroyed at the scenes. Hanif claimed to secure hundreds cubics of illegal logs, such as in Riam Anjungan, Tanah Laut.
"Some of the evidences have been secured by the Tanah Laut Police and are being guarded for 24 hours. Other evidences we secured in Ulin, Banjarbaru," Hanif stated.
