The South Kalimantan Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture Agency built agricultural water governance infrastructure in nine districts and cities to anticipate flooding that might occur on agricultural land.

Head of the agency Syamsir Rahman in Banjarbaru on Wednesday said the development, which covers tertiary channels, connectivity, quarter, secondary, embankment, embankment tidying and disposal channel, aimed as various protection for agricultural land against flooding.

"As it has been directed by the Governor of South Kalimantan, after forest and land fire disaster we should be ready with all possibilities of disaster in the future," he remarked.

One of which is flooding. "We have made our effort to prevent flooding in agricultural land," he stated.

According to him, the efforts are made to synergize with the SERASI (Save Swamp to Welfare Farmers) program.

He gave an example, Tanah Laut District has 17,000 hectare of SERASI agricultural land. Base of the extent of the land, the government support to build irrigation channel which is targetted to cover 243,000 meters.

Outside Tanah Laut, infrastructure development on the SERASI land is targetted to reach 1,757,733 meter. "Currently the progress of development as of September 30, 2019 has reached 80 pecent," he said.

In addition to build infrastructure to prevent from flooding, the agency cleans tertiary channels, which partly covered by soil, using excavators in nine districts.
