The Forest Management Unit (KPH) of Balangan, South Kalimantan, has released a slow loris (locally known as kukang) protected animal to the city forest of Paringin.
Head of the Balangan KPH Patliansyah here on Sunday (8/9) said the primate was evacuated by officers in Kapul Village, Halong Sub-district, sometime ago.
Before it was released, the slow loris was kept for several days to wait it health to recover.
"Considering this animal is vulnerable to stress after it gotten out of its natural habitat, so we have to treat it first and monitor its stress level before releasing it," he told.

The slow loris was then checked by Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) officer and was declared health and did not need to be quarantined. Thus it must be released immediately.
"The slow loris was released by officers to the city forest of Paringin," Patliansyah said.

Previously the protected animal was found by a villager, who then secured it and reported it to the KPH officer.
Patliansyah appealed all parties to help preserve the living environment and forest in South Kalimantan.
